What to do with grey stain on furniture to give more natural look?

Put a aged grey stain on headboard I made and not liking the finish. Any suggestions on how to get it to looks more natural after I have already applied stain?
Do you like the distressed look? You could sand some of it off and have some of the wood showing through.
I did the very same thing with a pair of picture frames. So I bought a bottle of black latex craft paint, watered it down till it was the consistency of ink, and put a light wash over them. When they were thoroughly dry, I took fine sandpaper and sanded off some of the black. You can also use a different shade of gray paint on top of the black, then sand. My picture frames came out looking like barnwood.
Hello, They make different colored waxes that can give it different looks.
Use a watered down black if you want to go darker or a white or cream if you want to go lighter and use a dry brush technique. Try on the back of the headboard first or on some scrap wood or poster board.
consider highlights of silver or any colour using rag to wipe on here and there
