DIY Painted Stair Runner

by Pieced Pastimes
We all have them - long overdue projects that get thrown on the back burner and forgotten about. This staircase was one of those projects, but we finally got her done.
I wanted a stair runner, but didn't want carpet. My solution was to paint a stair runner and I show you how in this post.
The plain white stairs were nice, but I thought they needed something more.
I started by measuring and taping painters tape in the striped pattern I desired.
The next step was to apply the stair runner paint.
Lastly, I gave the steps 3 coats of Polycrylic to protect the wood.

Did you start out with stairs that had,had carpet on them? Then paint them white, got bored and added this runner? If so how did you deal with original stairs once carpet was off. Also is it slippery or did you add something to paint?

This is gorgeous. Can you tell me what kind of paint you used?

The painted runner is such a nice way to dress up your stairway.
