Any ideas how to cover existing glass subway grouted tile??

Remove it and replace with designs, sizes, or colors that YOU like!

Why do you want to cover this beautiful tile? This is a work area and nothing will work any better than what you have.

However, if you are disliking smears on the glass, just wipe it down and then wipe over with a dry cloth. You have to dry glass as you go!

The tiles are very nice... leave them,Paint the cabinets.

I imagine the color of the tiles after while could be limiting and need an update. I found several articles when I did a quick google search, so you can do it, I'm just not sure how long it will last but this seems like a good resource: http://homeguides.sfgate.com/way-paint-subway-tiles-42943.html

If you plan on re-tiling, use mussel bound, found at Lowe's. It works like thin-set but is peel and stick and will work over existing tile. :)

I am in the same dilemma with glass tile, but not subway tile. I hate mine, it is the small mosaic glass tile. I have been researching and there are a ton of ways to cover. I CANNOT take mine off as it is tearing up the drywall and I have no wish to go the expense and time to do so. You can cover over with all sorts of things with out removing. Beadboard, tile over tile, the new large plastic squares all will cover quickly. You just need to determine the depth of what you are using to cover. Beadboard for example can be thick or thin, and has corner pieces to cover edges. My shower is the same. I hate what the previous owner put up and am doing tile over tile in the master shower.

I have subway tile in my kitchen as well. I truly HATE it. It is so hard to keep the white grout clean. Now it is getting stains in it. Yuck!

I don't have the money to remove it. We are putting up faux tin tile over it. It just glues over the tile. I have one area done and it looks great. When I get a free day again I'm going to finish my kitchen.

For those who say don't cover it, it's not their home. Do as you please and what makes you happy!

How about ship lap.....can be installed over existing tile. I love the look and will be doing this in my kitchen!!!!!

There is a wallpaper designed to cover gaps. It will even cover the wide gaps on a cinder block wall. Do this and then add your next surface over the paper.

Vinyl wood-look tiles; they make them peel and stick. You should be able to put over the glass/subway tiles. When you can afford to update with something better, just peel them off and remove sticky glue.

Tmichel ~ personally, I really love the backsplash but, to each our own! The first thing you can do is to treat it as a 'neutral'. The overall look of the tile itself is rather khaki (a neutral) so feel free to use whatever kitchen colors you really love and just ignore the tile.

btw. .. the tile color is actually one of the hottest decorating colors lol!

If you're having trouble keeping it clean and streak free, one thought I have is to clean it extremely well and apply Rain-X on it. Rain-X can keep your windshields clean and raindrop free so I'm sure it'll be terrific on the tiles.

Addting under cabinet lights will brighten the entire kitchen and the color of the tile. You could experiment with putting colored LED strip lighting under the cabinets and see how that may change look.

I just covered mine after we bought our home the blue doesn’t match my decor. I used double sided tape and file from Lowes I can’t recall the name. It’s easy to do and it was a days project me.

I don't remember the brand, since I did it about 15 years ago. I bought it at my local Lowe's store.

Some of the adhesive variety's might be a quick fix to put over the tile. Tile paint? If it is only the grout lines you dislike there is colored Grout Refresh made by Mapei. You work in your kitchen and should be happy in it. Good luck!
