Clean ,Prime and paint with Latex
I painted over my medium-darkish wood paneling. I primed with 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of Valspar. Turned out great. Room went from dark and cave-like to light and open. Now I have to wonder why I was so hesitant. Wish I had done it sooner. Of course if your paneling is in a place that gets dirty (kitchen grease, etc.) you'll need to wipe the paneling clean before priming. I didn't even putty my "grooves" to make a smooth look. I just primed and painted. So glad I did.
Clean well and prime with a good primer. Any type of indoor paint should work well

Hi Diana. You can paint paneling. I would start by wiping the paneling down and filling any holes. Then I would use a oil base primer to paneling. It works way better than the latex. Last you can use a latex paint. Good Luck!
Make sure you wash paneling and let it completely dry! Always use a primer. If you don’t prime latex paint will scratch right off
