I would paint the fireplace white, and hang or set a big painting with bright colors on the fireplace. If there are walls, or bookcases, or spaces within bookshelves, that can be painted a light color or papered with reflective paper and lined with mini-lights, do it! Use light furniture wherever possible, and light flooring and accessories. But it will start with the fireplace. Choose Behr, Valspar or another name brand masonry paint. I suggested white, but you could always go with your favorite color. Best wishes, Maggie! ☺️
Hello, I used shermin williams on mine and I like the way it covers.
Don't paint.... Use masonry stain. Your end result will be much nicer and less maintenance.
