How do you paint etched glass lamp shade to beautifully illuminate what is painted.
I WANT the light to shine through the paint. Like The beautiful hand painted ones I see illuminated with flowers or birds or buterflies. The globe is etched.

Typically, the design is not etched. So, you would make a design out of paper, use stencil tack to hold it on glass and etch around the design. I use actual acid because I don't like the effect of the spray "etching". Having said that, however, I guess you could do the etching is reverse etching the design and leaving the background clear glass. Either way, you'll have fun. Good luck.

You can use acrylic paints to highlight areas, but remember you will not be able to remove later or cover it up sucessfully

Try glass paint. I have seen it at craft stores, and I have seen it labled translucent.

I agree with Barbara. Use stain glass paint from either Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Acrylic craft paint may work but you would need to get the translucent kind.

I think this particular globe would be just beautiful if you used alcohol ink. You can mix colors on a dauber and dab it about. Check out this video for instructions.

Get glass paint at a craft store. The paint is translucent. It is the same paint that is used for faux stained glass.
