Has anyone every painted on Kitchen sub-floor?

Depending on the condition of the sub floor and the material it is made from... I don't see why you could not paint it... you will probably need to sand, and prime before painting

Another alternative is to visit the clearance corner of the building supply stores for discounted tile, vinyl, laminate, etc. There are also building materials salvage yards around. If you are creative, I've seen people get job leftovers from wood floor installers. They will collect several different colors and when they have enough square footage they will randomly mix all the colors for a rustic or shabby chic look.

Try using a tile looking laminate...easy to self install...but not water proof...or the new click and lock vinyl planking.

Yes, out of necessity for a year. We pulled up linoleum and any nails or anything poking up. You can sand it to a degree, especially if it’s got jagged edges to anything. I personally used the OLD FASHIONED type of Kilz. The oil based kind. To seal out anything, two coats letting dry well between coats. The I used BEHR paint (best home paint in my opinion, it’s up to everyone.). Two coats of the best durable and washable paint. It wasn't a very large area, but it was kitchen, dining, and living room. My kids were little at the time. I had the usual Kitchen Rugs, for the living room I got an area carpet. It worked and I made the feast of the area a cute “cottage-like“, feel to it.

Latter we were able to afford to put in new, easy care flooring.
