Latex primers prepare and promote adhesion of acrylic paint, which in turn provides an elastic surface meant to weather the toughest elements. With both the primer and paint being made with water, this means a quicker drying time and easy (not to mention fast) cleanup with soap and water.
If you use a latex paint with the primer already in it, you should be fine.
The previous answers are correct. Use a good quality paint/primer. Go to a regular paint store and get a quart of good paint.
The secret is preparation. All interior house surfaces get a coating of dust and oils from being touched by the hands. It’s worse if anyone ever smoked in the house.
You can clean the door with household cleaners, TSP, or a sanding or deglossing solution. The best paint will not do a good job unless the surface is clean.
If the door is now painted with oil, you'll need to Prime with oil based primer or a bonding primer.
Lightly sand the door to remove any shine. Prime with Kilz primer. Then paint your color
We've always used a paint and primer in one with great results.

Hello Brooklyn,
A bare timber door would require, Primer, Undercoat and two coats of gloss paint. All theses items are available at DIY's and on line. Ebay, Amazon etc. Hope that helps!
Prime with Kilz primer or use a paint that has primer in it already
Why don;t you just put on a first coat of primer on the door?
This primer works well for acrylic paint: https://amzn.to/3f7B1qo
You do t need to prime it just. Do two coats of that paint
You can buy a primer at your local home improvement store or paint store.
