How can I repaint a Japanese wall covering (sand)?
I did my kitchen walls in Japanese sand paint about 10 years ago but it's worn in areas and apparently (from the store i purchased from) cannot be repaired. Is there any priming material that can cover the sand paint and make a smooth surface for latex paint?

We have built-ins on either side of our gray brick fireplace, and I would love to paint the fireplace out in white. However, my husband feels it would be a bad idea.
WOW, I think you need to sand the walls.
use a flat sander on a pole. the dust will fall straight down to the drop cloth. if you use a rotary sander you will have dust in every nook and cranny of your house.
No the only thing to do would be to skim coat the walls with plaster then sand it then paint
