Make sure they are very clean, remove any loose or chipped paint, give them a good sanding to rough up. Use Kilz to give an undercoat, then your final paint.

clean very well and sand. And maybe prime depending on your cabinets
Prep is the most important part. Take the time to do them right.
Wash them to remove grease. Lightly rub them down to give a key. Wipe over to clear the dust. Then Prime them then Undercoat and then Top coat.
