I would check with a paint store to get recommendations. It would need to cleaned and probably need to be scuffed up to remove any protective coating. Untreated brass would tarnish over the years.

I had a set of living room tables with brass legs and glass top. I took the legs to the garage and used a premium black spray paint and put multiple thin coats of spray paint on the legs. It turned out nicely and lasted for many years. I built new wooden tables and sold the old stuff on Craigslist.

I would use a Rustoleum product, you may have to scuff it lightly for the paint to adhere. They have metallics and also different textures to choose from.
