If you are unable to use a paint sprayer, use a large napped roller.

Use a good quality latex ceiling paint. One preferably that has the color added so that you can see where you have painted and it turns white after it dries. A good quality roller with thick pile is best for this type of ceiling.

rent a paint sprayer. commercial painters never brush or roll a house inside or out, they all use sprayers and it doesn't affect texture.

  • I have used a fluffy roller with no problems. The one thing I would caution you about is - do not go over a spot several times. The 'popcorn' will get to wet and try to lift off.

if you use a roller , just do a thin coat. if you get it too wet it will come off and make a mess. better 2 thin coats that one BIG mess. the same for spraying.
