How to distress or do a cheap fix to black painted kitchen cabinets.

Recently bought 30 yr old condo. Kitchen cabinets had been painted, with what looks like, very cheap black paint. They probably should be replaced but that's just not in my budget. I love the distressed farmhouse look. Please please please.....any ideas????

I love Killz. You can paint over black then paint white and it wont show through.
If able change handles. check a second hand store or a used store from tear downs. Check yard sales.
Get out your sander, get rid of gloss, use a good primer that matches your paint color & use a small, smooth sponge roller for a great finish on the cabinets.. Take cabinet doors & hardware off first !!!!! Good luck, take your time !!
