Krylon and Rustoleum both make spray paints suitable for plastics. My favorite is the Rustoleum Painter's Touch available almost everywhere that sells paint. Lots of colors so you may be able to show off your artistry and flare for colors. Your task is to use sandpaper to un-shiny every square millimeter of your furniture before painting. Not a small task but if you take your time and get the details right the finished product should be most satisfactory.
Hello Lea; A Friend of mine had this issue. She ended up taking the set of furniture to a place that paints Automobiles.
It cost a bit, but what an Awesome job that they did on her set.
I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!
Black and shiny usually means Lacquer, can be painted with about anything. after you sand it, to provide adhesion, wipe all the dust off with a Tack-rag or Lacquer thinner on a rag.

And I always suggest chalk paint as paint choice, it cuts out a lot of the stressful steps. Please do share it on Hometalk as you make it!
Thank you. I think this is the answer I'm looking for:)
