Would it devalue my fireplace to paint it out in white? It is currently gray brick.
We have built-ins on either side of our gray brick fireplace, and I would love to paint the fireplace out in white. However, my husband feels it would be a bad idea.
I would get a bunch of color swatches from Lowes or Sherwin Williams, and start narrowing it down from their by looking at those up against the walls. You can even get small paint samples in those colors you narrow down to and paint strips to see what you think.
If you know the color and brand of the rose beige paint or at least can identify it on a paint card, you can find coordinating colors by the same brand to match or complement, usually by changing the quality of the original hue (lighter or darker) or introducing a new color that will look like it belongs with the original color (complement). Check out the paint department or store where you shop and ask the salesperson. Here is an example of a paint chip card with chips of different hues.
There are multiple sites that have the option of uploading a picture of your room and then try and find what colors blend with it. Valspar has a great site
Hello Gmaxten; If I were redoing your rooms, I would go to Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Lowes, Etc.
I would pick out any paint chips that interest me. Bring them home, lay them out. Decide what colors you Love and Enjoy.
This is your Home!!! You can even use (example a pillow or an Antique that you Love, as a link in choosing a color)
I hope that this helps you!!!! Good Luck with your paint! Take Care!
How about a pale sage? Or a lemonade yellow? You have some great suggestions here!
I like to use shades of color from room to room. That gives me a smooth transition I recently took an online (free) course on using the color wheel and I am more comfortable now, determining what colors go together. A warm gray or sage as mentioned before might also give you a smooth transition. Lighting varies from room to room and during the time of day. Sometimes what looks good in one room just doesn't work in another. I usually try different samples until I find the color I want, once I decide which direction I'm going. I've also learned that if I'm frustrated with my choices, I may need to go in another direction. I literally spent months trying to figure out an update for my bathroom, and then one day, visiting my daughter, I realized one room in her house was very calming and serene for me, and I had a totally different color than I had thought I wanted, but, one I still love a few years later.
Your best bet is to get paint swatches and bring them in your home and see how they will look in the lighting. Many will give you there likes of colors. Paint is very personal.
Thank you to each of you who answered. I will take all your advice. I am excited to begin!
