Hi, since the paint is water-based you should be able to apply a heat resistant paint over the top without any problems. Check on the manufacturer's instructions on the paint you purchase to see how to prep a paint surface

I would take it to be sand-blasted down to the metal and then apply the correct paint. Don't take the chance of the Behr paint off-gassing something bad when you use your stove.

You should be able to strip it off and repaint it. When you say "wrong paint", are you referring to the color, texture, or something else? You can paint stone and brick with this type of paint so I'm unsure exactly what the issue is.

Hello. I would call the manufacturer BEHR. They’ve been very helpful with all my problems and concerns in the past—- their support line is very helpful.

Rustoleum makes a high heat paint for Stoves, grills etc. Call them and see if they can help you.

You can sandblast it off. You can use a brass brush in a drill and brush it off. You can even use a propane torch to soften it and scrape it off. Make sure to wear mask and eye protection.

  • I would remove the old paint before repainting with heat-resistant paint. This way, you will have the best adhesion.

Is this a fire place or a wood stove?

Just remove or strip the incorrect paint off and repaint.

I used some Rustoleum to touch up our wood stove and it didn't match the original paint and I don't want to repaint the entire thing. Just keep that in mind. But if this is just a fire place surround it should be a snap.

  • I would use Mod Podge. They have a lot of different varieties, I would check out Hobby Lobby or Michaels. They may even have one for glass, but the original kind should work.

I would strip it and then repaint with paint for fireplaces.
