  • A hot topic among many people. To me it is a matter of personal choice. Painted brick is easier (at least I think so), to care for, as it is easier to wash or dust as necessary.

    Inside or out?
If outside use stabilising solution first then use exterior paint. If you don't use stabilising solution you'll be doing the job again next year! Doing the job properly the finish will last for many years.
Inside, water down the first coat of emulsion by about 20%. That will seal the surface, then, once it's dried apply the top coat straight from the tin.

Before painting the brick, you will have to make sure that it is properly cleaned. For that you can use a wire scrub brush for dust and dirt on it and apply TSP (nonsudsy trisodium phosphate), afterwards clean it throroghly with some heavy duty cleaner (or pressure washer if it is outside), rinse and make sure it is entirely dried before painting.
There are various good masonry stucco & brick paints for example.

Depends on if this is indoors or outdoors. If indoors similar to painted walls. If outdoor space you will likely have upkeep as there will be chipping s/t the elements

i love the look of old white painted brick. i would just power wash it clean. then paint with exterior white paint or whatever color you want :) you might have to touch up later but if you like the old look it would get better with age
