Yes, just enough to take any gloss off....so the paint will adhere.
give them a light sanding and wipe down with a tac cloth
Definitely remove the doors & any hardware. Sand them down, blow off any residual shavings & repaint. They should come out beautifully. For the cabinets, just sand them lightly, wipe down & paint. The doors are usually the cabinet parts that have the most wear & take the most time. We just used a roller on the cabinet outside & insides & used a trimmer for the edges. The doors required removal to the garage & a real workout, but cheaper than new cabinets & the result was worth the work.
I will be painting mine also, I researched every which way to not have to sand them, Loews/ home depot, have a zinzer primer just for cabinets, and cabinet paint that can be mixed in so many beautiful colors... hope this was helpful , good luck!
Make sure when you take your cabinet doors off to number them. It will save you a lot of aggravation when you try to put them back up!
