You could always paint on dye. Best of all, this technique won’t change the natural texture of the fabric.

Paint-on-dye is fabric dye that can be applied with a brush. You can also use a fabric paint which is much easier to find. Check a local fabric store such as JoAnn's or a hobby store such as Michael's. DecoArt So-Soft Opaque Fabric Paint is a quality product that does not need heat setting, but there are other brands. Both dye and fabric paint will leave the rug supple rather than stiff. Be sure to protect the floor beneath where you are paint the rug.
