Hi Teresa, there are so many ways to paint a countertop that I have a suggestion that will be a little different. Go to 'google.com' and type in 'diy paint countertop' . There are so many ideas out there it's hard to do it all in one post. There are kits available with different kind of faux granite and marble. There are also people who have used their favorite paint then researched food safe sealer to finish the counter top. There are other sealers that will up to a small amount of heat (but not like putting a hot pot on the counter). There are people who have painted the granite and marble using their own colors and others who have used Unicorn Spit for the color. There are others who have painted their own design or used a stencil. Use Google.com to do the search because they also have a link near the top that says Images. You can see all kinds of picture of things others have done. If you click on a picture there is a link on the right that says Visit Page. That will take you to the page that originated the image. Then you can often find out how they did it.

Check out Dixie Belle Paints...I have been researching painting kitchen cabinets and counters and have decided to use these products.
They sell kits for this at Home Depot and Lowes, two kinds are Giani and Rustoleum Transformations.
