HI Cheryl, start by removing all of the doors and drawers and putting them somewhere you can sand and paint them. I would thoroughly sand down everything you want to paint and make sure anything that is pealing is completely gone. Next do two coats of a good primer (I used Kilz) and then another two coats of the paint you would like to use. We were doing it in white so I ended up doing four coats of white paint to completely cover the fake dark wood of my mom's kitchen. After that, two coats of poly acrylic and you will have a surface that will last for years!
