How do I paint over wallpaper?

Do I need to fill in the seams so they don't show? I've tried to remove the paper. Bad mistake as the sheet rock came off with it.

If you don't want the seams to show Joyce then you need to fill them and sand smooth. If you are putting paint over wallpaper the paint will just accentuate the seams and any damage--and you will see the seams more. If the wallpaper has a pattern it visually hides the seams--but the paint is all one solid color so there is no hiding the seams. Putting paint over the wallpaper may also cause your seams to bubble and ripple.

You can fill the seams with wall joint compound. Then you need to make sure there isnt any grease on the qall so wipe them dow with a cleaner like 409. The you need to prime the walls. I like the kilz brand wall primer. Make sure its white base primer. When the primer drys you can paint the walls any color you want. Hope this helps

It would probably be a good idea to fill the seams

Use joint compound to fill the seams and any damage that you have on the wall from trying to remover the wallpaper. You might have to trowel on several layers of the JC and sand in between to smooth things out. Then prime - I like XIM Bonding Primer apply two coats and then paint.
