Should you paint before or after installing crown molding?

Want to install crown molding in great room. Son say paint after, I say paint before as molding is painted before installing and a second coat after installation. Need help in what should be done and when.

    pant after the molding is up and painted so that any overage can be painted.

    The contractors who renovated my living room painted the white crown molding with a super gloss white before they hung it, then after they nailed it in place, they used a white PAINTABLE (non-silicone) putty to fill the nail holes, and repainted a second coat of the paint. Hope this helps.
