Paint follows the 90/10 rule: plan to spend 90% on preparation then 10% on application time.
Sanding and filling the plywood, then sanding between coats of paint should give a smooth result. Make sure floor is spotless before applying a thin layer of paint, working quickly to maintain a wet edge, and keeping paint flowing out to a smooth coat. Once you’ve left an area, DON’T GO BACK until the next coat.
Good luck!
They make some cool paint now specifically made more for decks that’s got minor flaws that helps fill in crack and dents in the wood. Make a nice smooth hard shell when the paint dries and holds up extremely well. I used this same paint on my raised beds made out of 2x6’s in my garden that looks great still after painting 2 years ago being in direct sunlight and all the other elements outside! I bought it at Home Depot and I believe it was made by Bher paint.
Did you Sand, Prime Undercoat and Topcoat? If not you will have to start with Sand and then Undercoat and then Topcoat to get a good finish.
The first thing you need to do when painting any plywood floor is to sand the heck out of it until it's really smooth. Then apply a couple coats of a good primer. Paint (maybe stencil a pretty design). Then add a couple coats of a good exterior sealer. Every one of those steps is critical for making a plywood floor not only last but look good.
