I could type it out, but here's what HGTV has to say:

I would remove the doors, (LABEL THEM) and hardware and sand them with 100, then 220 grit sandpaper. Wipe them down. If the paint has primer in it, you're good to go. If not, prime first.

Make sure they are clean and dry. Use acrylic latex paint. Remove the doors and hardware. Mark the doors and cabinets with tape where they go. Lightly sand the doors and cabinets to remove any gloss and roughen the surface for paint. Prime with a stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123, KILZ,or BIN. Then paint with your color. Seal with at least three coats with a water based polyurethane. Use a small foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.

Take all the doors and hardware off - make sure you number your doors (you'll thank me for this). Scrub everything down with tsp to get any grime off. You'll probably want to prime and then paint. Make sure you let the paint dry well between coats.

First make sure they are sparkling clean, then wipe liquid sandpaper on them to dull any finish. Then lightly sand with a fine sandpaper. If you are going very light from dark original finish, you may want to paint with a primer before the final coat.
