What paint to use on shiny brass(?) lamps? Sand them ?

    Pretty much any paint will work. If you roughen up the surface with sand paper a bit it will help. Just sand slightly.

    I would rub with 000 steel wool, prime and paint. I would pick Rustoleum myself, but I've also used model car paint, the German stuff is amazing. I get a box large enough to contain the lamp minus the harp, And then paint whatever effect I'm going for.

    Sand lightly to remove any gloss. Use Rust-Oleum or Krylon spray paint for metal.

    I used Rustoleum in oil rubbed bronze without sanding. So far, so good.

    Agreed on Rustoleum- I love their spray paints, especially the "hammered" surface; it's very forgiving with small drips!
