Always paint the ceiling first as you may incur drips from the roller.

Do the ceiling first. It is very hard not to accidentally touch some of the wall with the ceiling paint. We just painted all of our ceilings this spring and used the paint that is pale pink and turns to white. This was so helpful because you could easily see where you missed painting by shining a strong flashlight on the ceiling and checking for the non-pink areas. I used a paint edger along the top of the walls when rolling the walls to keep paint off the ceiling and this worked well. Just wipe the edge down every few feet. Nice crisp edge with the wide edger.

I agree with everyone, if there is an oops on the wall, just wipe it off and you don't have to retouch the paint on the walls. Smudges, drips, etc. are not uncommon when doing the ceiling. Much easier to do the walls afterward.

  • Ceiling first, then walls.

We painted our ceilings first so if any dripped we could cover up when we painted the walls...
