When painting ceramic dishes or tiles, can regular paint be used?

I know there are special paints to be baked on in the oven. I am wondering if you can use regular craft paints, or stained glass window paint instead

Regular paint will eventually wash off. It is not recommended.

You can but I wouldn't recommend eating off those plates

  I want to paint some 12" ceramic tiles. I know I will still need to seal them, but wondered about using regular craft paint in the oven. I thought I remembered a post stating that it was safe, and that baking it made the design more durable
