Wood floors in my doll house

I couldn't find wooden floors that I liked to put in the doll house I'm building so I painted the floors to resemble hardwood floors and did a nice job. I want the floors to shine and don't know what to put on them to give them a "varnished" look. Any suggestions?

Hi Kim, you can buy small clear gloss craft paints at Michael's or other craft stores- check in the craft paint section. You could also use modpodge or diluted white glue ( like Elmer's) for a shiny finish, although not high gloss. It will look milky when wet but dries clear.

Clear nail polish. Try a little on a remnant piece of your 'flooring' first to make sure that the paint you used does not bleed.

The smell will dissipate as soon as it dries. (The same as once it dries on fingernails- it no longer smells.) The smell is no stronger than other finishing products used in diy projects, such as glues, stains, etc.

What is the size or dimensions of the 'floor' in the doll house that you want to cover?

O.K. If you live near a dollar store, I would suggest getting two bottles.. Pour it into a clean disposable small rounded lid/little plastic cup, etc. and then brush it on with a brush that is bigger and wider than the wee one on the nail polish bottle lid. Brush it on in thin coats, trying to go over any area only once. It will dry gunky if you try to cover over spots before they are not thoroughly dried or if you put it on too thick at once.

If the results meet with your expectations, share them with a picture here on Hometalk.

Cool, I will try this on a scrap wood sample.

    Thanks

Varnish suitable for the paint you used! Ask at Craft Shop.
