Change The Ugly Paneling In Your Home The Easy Way!!!

When we bought our first flip house , we were dreading the ugly paneling that covered almost every wall in the basement. We put that project in the back or our minds as we tackled other projects in the house. I really wanted to transform the family room in the basement because it was such a great asset to the house.
the paneling made it so dark and depressing that no one would really want to spend much time down there. We had to change it. Before we closed on the house, we went back and forth about what we could do to change the paneling and still stay on our tight budget.
The paneling is not real wood (except by the stairs and the bar) so I didn’t think you would paint it at all. Then, more and more people were telling me they have done it. We had nothing to lose. We had to give it a try.
We rolled up all the carpet and had all the ceiling tiles removed because we are replacing them. We covered the outlets with painter’s tape and brought out our {aff}  HomeRight Heavy Duty Paint SprayerSince there is paneling everywhere and we didn’t have to be “careful” about where the paint landed – spraying it was going to be the way to go. We washed all of the walls and bought many cans of primer. You must prime the walls before you paint them so get a good base started.
We oiled the sprayer and strained the primer as it went into the bowl of the sprayer.
Then, we mixed the primer really well.
Now, it was time to spray!! We were still skeptical, but LOOK AT THE PANELING HOLDING THE PRIMER!! We were so excited. I want to reiterate that we really washed the walls well first. We think that really helped the primer stick.
Look at the difference! We sprayed all the walls with a couple coats of primer and then painted them all white. It really brightened up the family room and saved us so much money!! We didn't have to drywall or come up with another expensive solution.
You really can paint paneling and we found the easy way to do it!!!

Great job! And thanks to you and all the other Hometalkers for painting paneling instead of throwing it in the landfill! I get so put out with all these reno tv shows that, first thing, rip out the paneling instead of painting it!
