Wax for Enhancing Details
It has been a while since I have posted! Life has been busy for me, anyway, on to this project. I am in the middle of redoing a vanity that has a lot of decorative details. I was really unsure what I wanted to do to enhance those details, but then my friend who carries the Dixie Belle line suggested wax. So, I made a trip to her store, came home, and got busy. I will post a full tutorial of the whole piece once that is complete.
I wanted to mention that this is the paint I used on this piece. It is a newer line from Dixie Belle's "Silk" all-in-one mineral paint. It was my first time using paint from this line, and it worked well for this piece.
I never even thought of this, but clear wax can be any color if you mix in some paint.
I grabbed a small cup, used a popsicle stick to grab some wax, and then added some paint. I stirred it up, added a little more paint, stirred some more, and done.
Here is one of the smaller drawers and after painting, I knew it needed something to make those details pop. Looks blah, right?
I used a small artist brush to lay some wax into the details.
You can use a damp (not wet, just damp) rag to clean off any wax you don't want.
Here is one of the bigger drawers, and look at all those details.
Once again, I used my small brush to add the wax to the details. I am not left-handed but wanted y'all to get the right idea of how I did this.
After using the damp cloth to clear off any excess, I waited for the wax to dry. Then I went back with a dry rag (I used a paper towel) and buffed the wax to smooth it out.
Check out the difference between the drawers that have been waxed, versus the body of the piece that still needs it done. I haven't even mentioned the mirror....stay tuned for the whole piece to be posted.

Thank you! I love the versatility of changing the color of the wax. You don’t have to try and buy a bunch of different waxes by doing that. Have fun!
