Does your hometown influence your DIY?

I'm from New York, so I'm always conscious of space-restraints. Will I have room for this? How can I hack my space?
I also love the NYC skyline- I try to find ways to use it in my decor.
Do you have hometown pride? Does it influence your projects??

Good morning Hillela, This is a split decision for me, I have to say, yes and no. I have lived in the city and in the suburbs and in the country. I have painted city skylines while living in the country and rolling gardens and wildlife while living in the city. When it comes to my home, I am more influenced by available space, than location. I have had 7 of use living in an old 720 sq. ft. mobile home in the country - 6 of them boys. So my art became wall art, murals, and my DIY became reno's to make space and storage solutions, and bring in light. I have also had a huge loft in the city where we all had one room and so dividers became the rage. (especially when you let the boys all paint their own!) SO yes, available size does change what you do - sometimes. and No because and sometimes it just lets you be more creative - and makes you give things away as gifts!
What my location does change every time is how I handle my outdoor space and garden sizes, and what I can keep instead of what I can make.
My learning experience is how the location affects the type of salvage materials that are available. The inventory of an architectural salvage shop I can be VERY specialized. A short geographical distance can result in a significant difference of what they may carry. I think it is more dependent on when an area was settle or grew, rather than the area of the country.
Your paintings of the city could be used in a room with no windows, they look like windows out to the city. Even in a corner two on one wall and two on the other.
OK Hometalk: I have a great idea for Hometalk, because of Hometalk, I met a sweet lady who lives in Greece and I live in Texas. She saw a wreath made on Hometalk that used coffee filters and she could not buy them in Greece. So I took her address and mailed her some. Now we correspond every day via email. She is into crafts and so am I. I want to go to Greece for about a month in the fall and cannot afford the airfare, but what if we made a Hometalk show around that? Wouldn't it be fun? I'm retired and in my 70's, so it's almost impossible for me to find that kind of money on my own. What do you say? Think of the great things we can do for the Hometalkers.
