Granite Countertops

Recently downsized into small apartment, which has granite countertops in the kitchen & bath - not the greatest quality. I need suggestions on how to polish the counters to make them shine.

  • At Lowe's or Home Depot there are sprays to seal and clean the granite. Many times anything acidic will eat at the granite and do not use any any abrasive and any strong cleanser ~there is actually a spray cleanser found at the grocery store made by 409 for steel and granite. I have been using it and it does okay. Otherwise just use a clean wet rag and wipe off. Granite does not grow bacteria so it is great for kitchens.

warm water with a few drops of dish soap in about a 1/4 of a bucket...if the granite does not shine after this then the stone was not properly polished or has been degraded by sealers or etching form vinegar acids etc.

there are sealers for granite and you can get it from countertop fabricators or possibly tile stores. It will add shine and fill tiny scratches. It lasts for several years and makes a vast improvement in the looks.
