How can I make my shelf sturdier?
I installed two wooden 49 1/4 shelves in my entrance closet but not sure what I can put under it in the middle to secure it if I need to put semi heavy things on them. I tried a shelf bracket but it was a bit flimsy and other ones come with an extension that gets in the way of storing things. Below you can see the piece I tried using.

You will need to be sure to attach any holder to a stud in the wall. If you don't have a stud finder, you can get one at Home Depot or a friendly neighbor. You really
The best way is to attach the bracket to a stud. But they aren't always exactly where you want to hang the shelf. If there's no stud to attach to you need to use hollow wall anchors.
Adrian,
It looks like you are using 3/4 inch plywood for the shelves which is good. You need to run a cleat along the back wall, screwed into studs, like the ones on the side. Use a 2x4. You could also run a support piece across the front and then a piece in the middle, front to back, but you will lose some shelf height that way. Another option is to build your own triangular brace out of 2x4's. Center it in the middle or at the closest stud. Again, you will lose a little shelf space, but it will do the trick. I do not think those metal brackets will do you any good in the long run. The shelf is too deep.
Is the bracket you show new? If yes there should be a weight limit on the label or packaging.
You could also make a solid triangle (from the tip of the black angle to the tip of the other) out of a solid piece of wood. Cut it at a 45 and screw in from the top and angle it in on the back piece into the stud in the wall.
We have a pantry very similar to your closet and the wooden supports run around the sides and back of the walls...supporting the wooden shelf from 3 sides. We put very heavy cans, bags of flour and sugar, water bottles and soda cans and it's held up perfectly for years.
I feel like something like this would be more sturdy: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hyper-Tough-7-1-2-x-9-Inch-Natural-Finish-Wood-Shelf-Bracket-Model-6678/932177714?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=1966&&adid=22222222227000000000&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=42423897272&wl4=aud-393207457166:pla-51320962143&wl5=9005584&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=932177714&veh=sem&gclid=Cj0KCQiA7oyNBhDiARIsADtGRZZo1Ui0UtfAjpsDPCLuOelYjo76C3FzZFYi_xsag-C7xqSUhWTz5eAaAuvJEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Screw another support board along the back of the shelf just like you have on the sides. You can also nail/screw a board to the front of the shelf. It will hide the support boards, make the shelves look more chunky, and prevent the shelf from sagging under weight.
You will need to attach cleats on the wall end of the shelves, plus add a wooden support in the middle. Depending on how long the shelf is you might need 2 wooden supports.
If you put a cleat along the back under the shelves you should be able to store some heavier items if you can get them attached into the studs. We have half inch MDF shelves in our pantry and we did that and it has worked great. If your shelves are long you might need to add the shelf bracket for extra support.

Possibly you could add smaller "L" brackets or a piece of wood under the shelf between brackets.
if you attach to a studs you will be fine
You can use a sturdier bracket and wall anchors if there are no studs there. Otherwise you could put a cross support along the underside of the shelf and set that atop the brackets. These brackets pictured aren't meant to hold much so check the ratings back at the store, it should be listed there.
I think it would be best to just attach the bracket to a stud. Or you can also attach to you need to use hollow wall anchors.
