Find the source of the ants. Set out some ant traps to trap the ants. Clean around where you place the bowl with a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. Ants leave a trail behind and vinegar will remove it.

We have this problem too with our 2 feral girl kitties. The ants (and some crickets and slugs) love the dry catfood-Meow Mix. What I did was set up Terro a foot or so away from the cat dish, the ants go to the Terro before the catfood. At night, I empty the dish into a plastic bag and freeze the remaining catfood, any ants and are killed. If there are any remaining slugs, they get the salt treatment.

  • Try changing the location of the bowl or use a barrier like sticky tape.

Sprinkle diatomaceous earth around the area.

  • Track down where the ants are coming from and use Terro liquid bait traps. Make sure all food is picked up or sealed up right away to avoid attracting them.
