the coast guard can help. Start with safe boating classes, it covers trailering, and rules of right of way. They can point you to the right map set. You need to consider a depth sounder. It can keep you from getting hung up on a sand bar. Get walkie talkies the newer models have a weather channel installed. Any rain or lightning get off the water. I had inherited my dads boat...it was set up for a 2 person crew. Wound up selling it...no one was interested in boating in this area. Bought a camper...lots of fun.

--some Community Colleges have boating safety classes, check your local Wildlife Resource Commission for campinging Regulations, also the various states you will be traveling through will have different camping/fishing/boating regulations may be different for National Park Service ... or National Forests in each state will be somewhat different as well .... re fishing/camping/fires/ etc.

Nautical charts are available at most boat and nautical supply stores... but be sure and get instructions by the Coast Guard ... so you know "the rules of the road" so to speak.

Contact the parks and marinas in the places you will travel. They can provide these.
