Remove coffee stains from Tervis plastic mugs
Does anyone know how to get coffee stains out of mugs? They are the Tervis plastic mugs.
For stains that are set in sprinkle the stain with baking soda, then spritz on half and half mixture of vinegar and water.
You could also try using lemon juice on the stain. This worked well on our plastic vanity top where I spilled hair color, I took slices of fresh lemon and rubbed it onto the stain and then let the lemon sit on the stain, rinse with water and dry.
Hi Nell, besides baking soda and lemon you can also use a mix of 1 tablespoon bleach and 1 cup of water. Leave the plasticware to soak in the solution for about two hours. Wash and rinse thoroughly after the stains have gone.
Baking soda and lemon or soak in vinegar/water solution.

Rubbing alcohol can be used to clean coffee, tea, tomato sauce and tomato paste, juice and soda stains, and discoloration caused by most foods.
Usually, the discoloration can be removed if you rinse the item immediately after applying the alcohol, or by washing it with water and detergent. If the blemish doesn’t disappear, then pour the alcohol into the container and let it sit for a few minutes.
If the item isn’t a container, then pour the alcohol into something that can hold whatever needs to be soaked. When the item is stain free, wash it, rinse it thoroughly, and dry.
Of course wash well after using this method.
when you empty containers that can stain plastic, use cold water and dish detergent not hot water and that keeps it from staining

If you're going to use them for food again, then I would only use baking soda to make a paste and scrub or soak with vinegar and water. Sometimes, blue Dawn dishwashing detergent works. Soak with it first.
Try Bicarb of Soda (Baking Soda).

Baking soda and clorex works for me.
Spray with blue dawn powerwash. Hydrogen peroxide can also help to lighten. But if it's from warming items in the microwave they are most likely permeated into the plastic.
Some plastic stains more easily than others. Also, some food stains, such as tomato and blueberry for example, readily become 'permanently set' if the food was hot when it touched the plastic.
