I donate mine to the local library who has a mega sale yearly. Then I've also recently seen some incredible art using old books... https://www.pinterest.com/pin/47428602295493520/

Below is a link to what fellow Hometalk members have done with old books. Of course, if any can be donated, that's a good thing, but your library may not need them. Wishing you the best and happy creating!

We are book lovers so we do not think of using books to make anything else out of. A year or so ago I did a major rearranging and sorting of our books, sold some donated more to our town swap shop. Now I am sorry I did get rid of any because it the process somehow a 1917 New York City telephone directory got lost. This was very precious to us. The only "destructive" thing I did with books was to have my husband cut off the ends so I could make a "fool your eye" or Trompe l'oeil end for this bookcase. But I used books that were not valuable.

If you are looking to unload them - Beyond public libraries - Schools (especially private and religious who don't have tax money to buy books), prisons, senior care centers all have libraries. They may welcome the donations. Some can be sold on used book sites. You provide the name / author or ISBN # - they give you a price, and you print a postage paid label to put on a box you provide, then you mail. They send you a check. They are picky about what they will take. But I have sold a few that way. Goodwill and Salvation Army take books as donations. Some Hospitals will take novels and magazines. Mental hospitals and VA hospitals may also take them. Homeless shelters also sometimes take books.
