Living on an island
Hello, trying to learn many different things from what I was used to 🙂
Is there a way to deal with corrosion in metal surfaces ? In the kitchen, several things are showing rust spots.
Thanks !

The things that are showing rust need to be sealed against moisture, but first, remove the rust that has already accumulated.
You can clean the rust away using a steel wool pad, then clean with soap and water and dry well. Apply a clear sealer to keep rust from forming again. If it is a painted surface that has rusted in spots, clean as above, paint the entire surface and then apply a good clear marine sealer.
Clean off the rust with steel wool, coke will also take it off. Then use a clear sealer to prevent moisture from causing you more rust. The sealer you would use would depend on the item or appliance.
A dehumidifier might help you with items in the house.
Unfortunately, not all metal is rust proof.
What items in particular in the kitchen are beginning to develop rust?
If they are items are are frequently used in food preparation and frequently washed, instead of continually resealing them, it may be more cost effective to replace them with brand new stainless steel, or another rust-free material, such as silicone.
The rust issue is something that will occur over and over unless you take care of the moisture in the kitchen. If the moisture is from splashed water when doing the dishes you will have to get into the habit of wiping that down several times a day (hassle) or just look at this as a time to put in a new backsplash.
Do you have and use your exhaust vent above the stove?
Use steel wool to remove the rust; coke will also work. Use a transparent sealant after that to stop moisture from generating more rust. Depending on the object or appliance, you would choose the appropriate sealer. You could use a dehumidifier to aid with household things.

Would help if we knew what kind of metal you are talking about. Pots and pans? metal edges on a cabinet? Drawer pulls? Can't help without knowing WHAT metal and where you are having problems with.
It’s going to depend on what type of metal is rusting. For steel you can try a rust reformer. For stainless, a paste of baking soda will help clean it up but overall, on an island, it’s going to be an ongoing issue unfortunately.
Painting with a rust resistant paint and run a dehumidifier.
Rustoleum makes a great rust remover.
I've always found the quicker you address the problem the better. If its mild, I just use 0000 steel wool to buff the rust off. Then I use appliance paint for kitchen appliances. I have used metallic Rustoleum paint to spruce up electrical plates.
Ventilation reduces condensation which causes rust!
