When growing up in south Florida, we called them Conch Orchids.(back in the 40's & 50's)

@Sandra, oh, that is very nice to know. THANK YOU!!! I will now let @Becky H know since she was the person who gave it to me. She told me her aunt had told her the name of it, but that she (Becky) had forgotten the name of the plant.

I agree with Douglas Hunt. It is a Bilbergia Pyramidalis and it grows here in Orlando like crazy. Blooms 2x plus a year and spreads so well. Years ago, I got my first plant it when it was growing up a Maple tree in Winter Park at a friends house. She took it off, gave it to me and our neighborhood has been blessed with it as it spreads so well I can offer it to neighbors every year.

@Christina, aha, the common name to these in California is Frank. It sure is amazing how many different names one plant could have. Thanks for your input!
