Wall borders in Kitchen

I am trying to put up wall paper borders in my kitchen. I went by the direction, wetting the border, folding it like an accordion and then putting it on the wall, taking a clean sponge and wiping across the top. Can I still use this border with regular wall paper glue or am I doing something wrong?

Personally, with all wallpaper, I always, always use paste. The self-adhesive type is never reliable. You can make your own out of flour and water..thick paste if you want. Make sure you use sizing first or you'll never remove it. xoxo Good luck!! xoxo

Is it not sticking? Is that why you are asking about using wall paper glue? Was the border pre-pasted and did you leave the border folded long enough to activate the glue? I've never had a problem hanging any pre-pasted wallpaper or border.

Sounds like it was a Pre-paste border? Two things come to mind. Did the wall need to be washed prior to the boarder going up? Sometimes, in a kitchen, there can be grease in minute amounts you don't realize is there. The glue on the paper may not stick to it. The other possibility is a poor quality of paste on the border. I would wash the area, let it dry and then use sizing to help make it easy to remove if you should ever decide to...then, use a good quality paste, brush the boarder completely to cover it well with paste and apply to the wall. Smooth with a damp sponge to even it out and clean up excess glue. Rinse the sponge periodically...and wring it out well! Good Luck!

It was prepasted. I was doing this alone and I did make sure the wall was clean but I think maybe I got the paper too wet. I did the accordion pleat thing but still..no go. I would love to be able to get some get wall paper paste and get it up for my sister. I usually don't fail at these projects but I really bombed on this one.

I wallpapered professionally for several years Margaret. You cannot trust pre-pasted at all. You need to size it and then use paste. Really. xoxo

Margaret---it's not a bomb! Get the paste! For whatever reasons I find wallpaper and boarders to be "moody". I wouldn't be surprised if the paste were inferior and I agree with the Junk Gypsee...you can't rust pre-pasted. It's great in theory but more often a flop. I paste everything whether I think it needs it or not! Let me know if I can be of any further help! Sallie
