You have brown concrete so go with the browns. This would blend both into one area. Remember darker shade will last longer than lighter shades.

Same colour as other flooring and unit on lower level.

I agree with William with the brown, otherwise it would look like patchwork. As for the product brand, here is a bit of info on water based stains:

    Water-Based Wood Deck Stains

Water-based deck stains have come on rapidly in the last 6-8 years. The main reason for the vast amount of water-based stains on the market today is related to changes in VOC laws across the country. Many states have adopted or soon will adopt lower VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) regulations. This has prompted stain manufacturers to increase the production of water-soluble decking stains. In our opinion, water-based deck stains are “thin” paints with varying amounts of acrylic and pigment.

Pros: Water cleanup, less chance of mold or mildew growth. Environmentally friendly.

Cons: They do not penetrate as an oil-base can. Slightly harder to apply as they dry quicker. They can be prone to peeling and wearing. *Restore-A-Deck Wood Stains and Defy Wood Stains are the only exceptions that we have tested. They penetrate the best of all water-based stains, nearly as well as an oil.

find a stain the same color as the brown you are already using so it all goes together easily

  • Choose a shade of brown that blends with the color already there.

Go with brown and match it as closely to what you already have.

That will make the deck look more intentional and not like an after thought.

I suggest using a brown that matches or coordinates well with the existing concrete. The only deck wood stain I've used is Thompson's and it held up well through summer heat and winter snows. Below is a Consumer's Report which rates the various stains available, whether transparent or not. Hope this helps!

  • You could match the neighboring brown to give a continuous color look or a shade lighter or darker for visual variety.

I would go with a lighter brown. Perhaps a redwood tint. Stay away from super dark unless you want to spend all your time cleaning. We did something dark and I am constantly scrubbing bird droppings (until I started placing rubber snakes on the posts) and footprints, everything shows.

Light oak would look nice not to dark

I would try to match the brick in the other area.

Hi Dorothy, you have a few choices here looking at this photo, I would choose a color that will accent a color you love, like the browns, or even a nice grey to give the deck a rustic look! I love the idea of grey.

  • I would definitely choose a color that matches the floor you have painted. There are so many choices for stain, custom colors. You should be able to choose something very close to coordinate.
