There are so many ideas and projects, how do you decide which projects to work on without going into 'Project overload' trying to do them all!

For a long time, Steve, I did JUST that, began working on all of them! I now take the projects I'm interested in, and the ones I feel confident I can accomplish. That way I don't let myself down and keep things manageable!

Boy, do I know what you mean, Steve! I would end up with 9 half finished products and feeling depressed!! I finally decided to SLOW DOWN and pick one and complete it and move on to the next one that looked fun.

  • I agree!. I usually prioritize the items that need fixing, like household upkeep items, then move to fun things I would like to try but always keeping in mind that certain things I can't do by myself (like some wood working) and then the cost of other projects. Always try to repurpose before buying new.

Thank you! I do need to prioritize. I feel like I don't appreciate the project I just finished before rushing off to work on the next.

Hey Steve! I feel just the same way! I have projects bookmarked that may take YEARS, haha! For me it is a matter of two things, first and foremost....affordability and confidence. Is is just a passing trend or do I truly love it enough to commit to it for a while. Some projects cost the same to make versus buy, so we have to be careful. I guess painting something is my number one go to. It is cheap and instantly updates the look!

Hi Kelly. I do feel I have a hundred projects bookmarked and only time for 3! I do need to narrow it down to the ones I can truly use or truly like, but that does seem to be the problem... I like them all!

      Thank you for the ideas!

I save my "project to do list" in a file on my desktop. First I will pick the ones that fit my time, needs and money abilities. Every couple weeks I will revisit my "list" and find that I can delete some projects because they don't seem to meet my needs as I thought.. Hope this helps.....

Hi Bobbi. I like the idea of re-visiting the list often to see if I can slim it down. They just all seem so great at the time! And I have made some projects that I look at when I am done and say "OK, that is nice... but what am I going to do with it??!!"

      Thank you for the help!

I look at my Pinterest list and just that maybe someday I'll accomplish maybe one tenth of them. LOL I find the ones that are related to areas I'm interested in craft wise are usually the ones I actually go on and get to eventually.

      Judy,

That's exactly how I feel! One tenth would make me happy because I have saved hundreds!

I have done what you are saying, I have concentrated on the woodworking projects and that has slowed me down and made me more happy to know that I am doing the ones I truly love!

Steve, you have to be able to separate "need", from "want"... for example, if you are looking for a coffee table, but along the way find terrific ideas for your garden space, save those ideas and move ahead with one that satisfies your need.

    Cynthia,

I have to be careful, because that is how I get some many! I start looking at outdoor benches and two hours later I have saved 40 more pins or Hometalk articles about everything from refinishing a dresser to grilling Korean Chicken! :)

I have started to just go in with a plan to look for just one type of project I can finish and quit when I find it, or I am lost for another couple of hours!

    Thanks, Steve

I have this problem too! I have finally narrowed down to a particular room to concentrate on. Or outside area. Then I make a list of what I would like to do or have, and then narrow that down to what is possible!! It helps a little!!
