Read your owners manual or look it up on line. They require a certain amount of airflow and any "cover" could possibly harm the unit and make it work harder and longer, therefore burning out sooner than it should. Now if you want to make a cute little tent type structure with landscape shade fabric that might be ok, but again, check the specifications for your particular model. You do not want to do anything to void any warranties you may have.
Agree with Naomie that having the AC covered is not advisable. Also keep in mind that any raised cover will need to be well anchored, otherwise the wind will quickly make a magic carpet out of it.
