Velcro strips
I am a little curious as to what this vent cover really looks like, and what kind of a vent does it go over? Is it a replacement for a previous one?
If the vent is for heating, I would not think that pre-glued velcro would stay stuck for any permanent adhesion, and, depending on the weight of the porcelain, that it would be strong enough to hold it on to the wall.
Could you post a picture of the vent cover please? Maybe more Hometalkers would recognise it as something they have had experience with.
In the past, I have used liquid nails, & it worked well.....jerry
Although using the pre-stuck strips of velcro may work, in my experience they are not reliable enough to depend on for mounting this kind of object. In my experience, the pre-stuck velcro strips tend to stick more to each other than to the backing they are "glued" on to. Over time, the glue dries, gravity takes over, and the object falls off. It would be a shame to have the lovely covers crash down off the wall and be shattered to pieces.
I would recommend using clips that are screwed into the wall instead. As you are limited as to the precise location on the wall the vent cover will go, there is no guarantee that there will be 2x4's behind where the screw will go in. If there is not wood behind, then get the clips with the anchors, as they will hold.
There are many different styles of these clips, just Google Image mirror clips to see the choices. The important thing here will be to get ones that are the right width to hang on to and hold the edge of the cover.
Use liquid Nails...problem solved!....jerry
