How do I make my heat pump more efficient?

Winter is here & my furnace is an all electric heat pump. I’ve cleaned the exterior coils & lubed the exterior fan.

I keep a fresh MERV 13 filter changed every 3 months. I’m ready to open up the interior unit as it’s making a weird noise when it shuts off, like the interior fan is rubbing or seizing, idk. What can I do to make my heat pump system more efficient?

Hi. It's possible the fan has become loose from it's casing. If you're up for the challenge, get online on the manufacturer's website and get the schematics of the unit. It will show you the parts and probably even troubleshooting suggestions. Good luck!

Keep your heat pump coils clean

    Maintain proper air flow

Check the duct work for leaks

    Adjust the refrigerant charge

Have you checked intake coils, should have 2 sets of coils. Maybe the motor bearings need lubed.also type of filter doesn't matter it's how often you change it due to use or conditions. Dust, pets, season of use some things may warrant even more frequent changing. here's a few things to check into;high efficiency ECM condenser fan motor, turbo easy start kit, remove & cleaning of blower motor & wheel. I service my own too. Good to learn as much as you can & then learn some more about it. I want to learn everything so I research, read then research it & read some more in case something new or older works better & I may have missed it first time around.
