I would hire a professional! Gas is tricky & one tiny leak can cause one gigantic explosion, even if you just run to the grocery store.
A photo of it would help! Google your specific unit & look at the diagram...it will show a view of all parts. Here is a hint, if when lit the flame has yellow in it your line is dirty & must be blown out. When replacing the thermocoupling take special note of its placement in relation to the flame, it will need to go back in the same spot.
You can do this, I have changed many of them & I am no hvac tech!
