Hello Zahid, have you thought about a green roof? A living roof will lower the temperature of your home quite a bit. Passive cooling and heating is another method. Close up the house on the side where the sun is beating down. Use fans in the windows on the opposite side and place them facing out in the windows. This will draw the hot air out of the house. Good luck.

Thank you for idea of green roof.

But my roof terrace is quite big and in my city greenery is also bit costly.

Since you are in Canada, Zahid, and I'm in the US, I can't tell you exactly. I would use my search engine for "reflective rubberized paint" and your location. See what comes up....good luck.

So sorry - this says Canada. I have no idea what to do except what I said about using your search engine and a large city near by. Good luck.

Hi Zahid, then start small. Propagate a plant that spreads - like jasmine. Use it on wires over top your terrace. It grows fast and it will twist itself onto the wires overhead of the terrace. Then as you can, buy others. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon weren't built in a day. Neither will your protection.

Everything depends on the products and materials that you have available there.... keeping the sun off of the roof or out of the house always helps... an awning over the roof... say one made of Shade Cloth...(shade, plus the air and wind can flow through) a "mister" system can also help keep daytime temperatures lower*..... awnings or shade screens over the windows (keeping the sun off window glass will help keep the heat from radiating into the interior spaces) will help keep temperatures inside lower.

    * We live in Arizona (USA) and out summertime temperatures can get up to 110 plus... and regularly do... we have shade screens on all our windows which helps with keeping cooling bill lower... and a great many of the restaurants here use mister systems in their outdoor waiting and dining areas to help with lowering the temperatures... and they do by quite a bit.

We use the "mist: setting on a garden hose sprayer... to provide cooling for our horse (in a small area in the shade of a tree) on days when the temps are extra high. We set the water pressure on the hose with just enough volume to produce the mist... and it doesn't clog up as easily as the regular mister systems do... as we have water from a well rather than city water.
