How to find out why my furnace is really loud when it's cold outside?

We have a furnace in our new addition of master suite that is very loud when the outside temperature dips below 30 degrees. The noise seems to be especially loud when the fan kicks on. Any ideas on the cause of this?

    Kris,

We have the same issue. I don’t have the answer but some ideas we have come up with.

Also, We do have our furnace cleaned about every other year and maintained. To make sure there’s nothing really serious make sure this is done periodically so you and your family are safe.

What we have come to decide is that the metal or pipes contract due to the cold. When we put a second-story on our house we would have this banging that would jump us out of bed when it first happened. But we found out was that from the oil company it happened to happen when the worker was here. The plumber put two small Have a copper pipe for the hot water. So for whatever reason it “bangs” when the furnace comes on.

The furnace itself it’s on an outside wall in our basement as most probably are.

Kris, Since this furnace must be somewhat new, call the company that you purchased it from, maybe it's defected. Aloha!
