  • Chances are you need a new one. They are not cheap! Do you have any friends to help you? I replaced mine a couple years ago and Home Depot quoted me over $700 to install. I inquired thinking if it was just a few dollars I would just pay it to save myself the trouble. No way was I going to pay that so I did it myself. The water heater itself was $600 something. Only part I needed help with was lifting the old one out and setting the new one in, the rest I did myself.

Does need to be replaced. Get a few friends, neighbors to help you out. A few pizzas, pop, beer and you can get it done.

Sounds like that one's bit the dust... try Habitat for Humanity... for an overstock heater...

or a plumbing supply place... .sometimes a slightly dented one has a SERIOUS discount!

It Can be a DIY job if all surrounding pipes are in good condition and up to code.

True Peter, I got my new one that would have been $600 plus delivery, for $300 cause it had 2 scratchs 1/4" on the side, and it doesn't even show now its installed.

I would drain it first, all you need to do is watch a few YouTube videos.

Call around and see if you can get a deal, I got mine at True Value that had been a floor model. Another way is check with your local power company on rebates for energy efficient ones.

Habitat for Humanity does work for low-income, disabled and elderly with house repairs. Call them and see what they would charge.

But friends are really best in a pinch.

replace it before the problem becomes worse. They are expensive but it’s one of those things you just have to do.

It's time for a replacement water heater. They rust out. Call a plumber. Get referrals and at the minimum, ask their charges.
